Thornbury Theatregoers - the first 20 years

 The first 20 years

Thornbury Theatregoers grew out of Jackie's idea to enjoy the theatre without the worry of driving at night or finding a car park. Our first venture was in late 1998 with a trip to the Theatre Royal, Bath to see The Woman in Black. We organised ten or so trips a year and widened our scope from plays to include occasional classical concerts, ballet and light opera.

We regularly visited Theatre Royal Bath, Everyman at Cheltenham, Bristol Old Vic, Hippodrome and Colston Hall. Each year we organised a day out and visited the RSC at Stratford-upon-Avon, Malvern Theatres, the New Theatre Cardiff and the Watermill Theatre at Newbury.

After 20 years and hundreds of memorable and variable theatre trips, we decided to retire. It has been a great experience, and many new friends have been made amongst the members.

Fortunately, Theatregoers continues, under the capable guidance of Penny Taylor and Jean Cox, with occasional help from Liz Wilkins.

We would like to thank all the loyal members/friends, who have helped to make the last 21 years of theatre trips unforgettable, and wish the new team every success for the future!
