Tobacco Factory

The School for Scandal

The School for Scandal

In this production , the company turn their attention to the scandalmongers of the eighteenth century in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The School for Scandal. The gossips seem extraordinarily close to home and the characters of Lady Sneerwell, Sir Benjamin Backbite, and the duplicitous Joseph Surface are horribly – but deliciously – familiar.

The Tobacco Factory, brainchild of Bristol’s Mayor George Ferguson, has established itself as one of the leading theatres in the country, famed especially for the acclaimed productions of Shakespeare and its support of new writing. It is a different theatrical experience from sitting in a traditional theatre environment and brings the audience very close to the action.
